Libertarian Party of Oregon Endorses Tony DeBone for Deschutes County Commissioner
Tony DeBone has proven his commitment to limited government, individual liberty, and fiscal responsibility.
He has consistently stood up for rural landowners and private property rights, supporting responsible requests to develop non-productive farmland while protecting our county’s rural character and natural resources.
We are proud to endorse him for Deschutes County Commissioner.

DeBone willing to make the tough decisions - Bend Bulletin
In a political climate where many elected officials seem more interested in telling people what they want to hear, Deschutes County Commissioner Tony DeBone stands apart. Tony makes decisions based on what is best for the county and its residents — and he does so while faithfully following state law, even when those decisions aren’t the most popular ones in the room.
Tony understands that principled leadership sometimes comes at a political cost. He has made clear that if a voter disagrees with a decision he made and chooses not to support him at the ballot box, he respects that. He isn’t asking for blind loyalty — he’s asking for trust that every vote he casts is grounded in the best interest of this community
That kind of integrity showed itself clearly during a recent stop in Sisters A couple approached Tony with sharp, pointed questions about a past land use vote they strongly opposed. Rather than deflecting or retreating to talking points, Tony engaged them directly — face to face, question by question, fact by fact. By the end of that conversation, the couple had not only come to understand his reasoning, but turned around entirely and pledged their support and their vote.
That moment says everything. Tony DeBone doesn’t run from hard conversations. He welcomes them, because he’s done the work and he stands behind his decisions. That’s the kind of commissioner Deschutes County is lucky to have — and the kind of leader worth re-electing. - Helen Marston
Stiles family supports DeBone
My family lived in Deschutes County for nearly 40 years and we were fortunate to witness its growth and development.
Today, as the county faces rapid population growth, rising costs, wildfire threats, homelessness, and increasing pressure on public services, this election is not the time for inexperience or political experimentation. It is a time for proven leadership. That is why I strongly support Tony DeBone for Deschutes County Commissioner.
Tony DeBone has spent years addressing the practical challenges facing Deschutes County — balancing growth, supporting public safety, strengthening infrastructure, and maintaining a stable economic environment for families, ranchers, retirees, small businesses, and working residents alike. His leadership has been steady, practical, and grounded in the realities of Central Oregon.
Deschutes County government is a large and complex organization. The county operates on a fiscal year 2026 budget of approximately $658.7 million and employs more than 1,250 people across public safety, public health, transportation, land-use planning, community justice, veterans’ services, and emergency management. Effective oversight requires commissioners who understand budgeting, governance, long-term planning, and balancing competing priorities.
This election is especially important because the county is transitioning to an expanded commission structure that will include several new commissioners with limited governing experience. Balanced leadership will matter more than ever.
Tony’s presence on the commission helps assure balanced dialogue during this transition. While Tony and Phil Chang do not always agree, they have shown the ability to discuss difficult issues respectfully and constructively. Tony understands that successful county government requires balance: protecting natural resources while supporting economic opportunity, planning for growth while respecting property rights, and preparing for emergencies without turning every issue into a divisive political battle.
His opponent, Jamie Collins, presents himself as a reform candidate, but voters should carefully consider the broader agenda behind the campaign. Collins is closely aligned with progressive political organizations and activist networks that increasingly influence Bend-area politics.
While those ideas may appeal to some urban voters, they risk pushing county government toward expanded bureaucracy, heavier regulation, and policies that may not reflect the values of the county as a whole. Deschutes County is more than Bend. It includes rural communities, agricultural producers, retirees, and working families who depend on balanced land-use policies, affordable energy, economic opportunity, and a county government focused on core services rather than ideological agendas.
At a time when residents are struggling with affordability, taxes, insurance costs, and economic uncertainty, Deschutes County needs practical leadership, fiscal discipline, and experience. Tony DeBone has consistently demonstrated the judgment, experience, and balanced approach necessary to help guide Deschutes County through this period of growth and transition. For those reasons, he has my strong support. - Carol Stiles
“I'm truly honored and grateful for the support of community leaders, fellow elected officials, and everyday residents across Deschutes County—from Bend and Redmond to La Pine, Sisters, and beyond—who believe in a practical, common-sense approach to the challenges we face.”
